Ddr Ram
Are there different types of DDR RAM will only work in safe systyems?

I'm trying to upgrade the memory on my Compaq Presario 6400nx, I get a 512 MB chip, I was thinking of getting a cheap off eBay instead of $ 65 in crucial. What I ask is, are all DDR RAM chips of the same, and if I can get one on ebay it work on my computer?

Counting this based on my experience – DDR Always buy from a source where you can return without loss a lot of money. Local computer store would be a good bet. The biggest problem is the lower grade memory may be faulty – Some of them may make your computer restart no reason. Again to answer the original question, make sure you have the DDR that is equal or faster than the existing one.

Game Laptops: Why RAM is mission critical?

Copyright (c) 2008 Titus Hoskins

Memory RAM or Random Access Memory is critical to gaming laptops. Mainly because the more RAM you have on your laptop or computer, the greater the performance level that can be achieved. More RAM will increase your enjoyment and let you play even the most difficult 3D gaming.

Besides the CPU (Central Processing Unit) of RAM is probably the most vital element to have on your laptop or PC. Like the money you can not have enough, also you can not have enough RAM. The more the better. The more RAM you have, the faster the computer runs.

Most serious players know your RAM. They know the difference between static and dynamic RAM. Many can even tell you how SIMM, DIMM and memory modules SO-DIMM are different from each of others. Besides, everyone knows the importance of VRAM or VideoRam to the operation of your gaming laptop. Most of all, they know that their graphics card or GPU (Graphics Processing Units).

First, you must realize, RAM is probably the best known form or type of computer memory. Second Instead, RAM is very important in how your team can perform tasks that call upon it to do. The more RAM you have, the more tasks with computers and programs can be run simultaneously.

Nor Should make the mistake that players only care about getting enough RAM, professionals working with heavy graphics and video editors, architects, layout artists, web designers … are also very aware of the importance of having enough RAM to do work. Keep in mind, computer technology is advancing at a blistering rate and is constantly changing. The monitoring of these standards industry and technology is JEDEC, which acts as a regulatory body for the semiconductor industry. Hey, someone has to keep track of all these forms of RAM!

Basically, you have two types of RAM – Static RAM (SRAM), which is faster and more expensive than dynamic RAM (DRAM). Thus As its name indicates, is refreshing and dynamic RAM is always slower and less expensive than Static RAM.

Static RAM is used primarily for the cache as in the Your CPU speed-sensitive cache.

What confuses most people is the whole range or types of dynamic RAM, with more in development as we speak. To complicate the situation further is the development of RAM for laptops that require memory modules smaller and more compact.

Here are some types of RAM that may or may not have seen or heard of:

FPM DRAM – which means "fast page mode dynamic memory random access "and was the original form of DRAM. It has a maximum transfer rate of approximately 176 Mbps to the L2 cache, and if you are wondering what is L2 cache, this cache is located outside the processor chip. Level 1 refers to the internal cache on the processor.

EDO DRAM – which stands for "extended Output Data Dynamic Random Access Memory "and is about 5% faster than FPM DRAM. transfer rate about 264 Mbps to the L2 cache.

SDRAM – which stands for "Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory" is very common in today's computers. Transfer rate maxes out at around 528 MBps.

DDR SDRAM – which stands for "Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM is similar to SDRAM but has greater bandwidth allowing faster. Transfer rate Level 2 cache is approximately 1,064 MBps.

DDR2 SDRAM – which stands for "Double Data Rate Two Synchronous Dynamic RAM", operates the external data bus twice as fast as DDR SDRAM.

DDR3 SDRAM – which stands for "Double Data Rate Three Synchronous Dynamic RAM" and is an improvement over DDR2 SDRAM. DDR3 allows for chip capacities of 512 megabits up to 8 gigabytes, which gives the maximum size of memory module a whopping 16 gigabytes.

Modules memory

RAM modules are mounted on printed circuit boards for use in personal computers. First, there SIMM (Single In-line The memory modules), which were gradually replaced by DIMMs (memory modules double line). The main difference between them: having a SIMM data 32-bit path and DIMMs are 64-bit data path. Now notebooks, has SO-DIMM (small outline dual memory modules online), which are smaller and more compact integrated circuit memory.

Of course, like everything in life, there are radically different forms of RAM or RDRAM which means "Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory. This was designed by Rambus and has a data bus high-speed dubbed the Rambus channel. Similarly, had Rambus module inline memory (RIMM) and for laptops that had SO-RIMM.

Graphics Card

Next, you should know that there is something called VRAM or VideoRam. This is a type of RAM used for video adapters or 3-D accelerators. VRAM is located on the graphics card and it is important for high resolution and color depth, both very essential for the players. From a multiport VRAM is expensive, some use SGRAM graphics cards (synchronous graphics RAM) instead because is cheaper. Other special or high-speed multi-port memory include WRAM, DDR2, GDDR3 and GDDR4.

Your graphics card may be the heart of your machine game. Most players go for the major brands such as Nvidia (GeForce) and ATI (Radeon) – the largest number of card numbers usually means the most high performance. For example, at the time of writing, Nvidia launched the GeForce 9800 GX2, which is basically two GeForce 8800 GT on a card. This also gives graphics DirectX 10. Wait a couple of months and is likely to be something faster and more powerful on the market.

If a graphics card is not good, then two or more would be even better. That's why you have SLI (Scalable Link Interface) that allows connection of two or more video cards together to produce a single output. PCI Express is another interface format expansion card that was introduced by Intel in 2004.

How much RAM needed?

As already mentioned, more memory RAM you have, the better the equipment operates. You will be able to perform more tasks and make them faster if you have lots of RAM. In fact, the update RAM to a higher level usually gives you a whole new computer.

There are recommended minimum requirements if you want to run certain programs or operating systems on your PC or laptop. To run Windows XP, Microsoft recommends 128 MB of RAM as a minimum requirement, once more is better.

For Mac OS X requires a minimum of 128 MB but for optimal performance try 512 MB. Linux works well on a system with only 4 MB of RAM.

For Windows Vista – Microsoft recommend at least 1gig of RAM, but many users have reported that 2 to 3 GB of RAM Vista makes it much easier beast to handle. Vista probably needs all the good press, if you can get.

For gaming laptops: How much RAM?

Again more is better, computers gaming laptops need a lot of ram, since it has video graphics and images strong. Serious gamers usually buy as much RAM as they can afford, the choice of faster machines with the latest graphics card. Laptops with four Gigs of RAM are becoming increasingly common, with many players opting for 8 performances.

At the time of writing, what levels are we currently at in regard to laptops and RAM? Well, the new Alienware Area-51 ® m17x Notebook comes with the following specs: An Intel ® Core 2 Extreme processors with up to 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz, sporting Dual NVIDIA ® GeForce ® 8800M GTX. This machine also has the "Killer K1 Gaming Network Card plus the ultra-life-like environments generated by the AGEIA PhysX" processor. You should also note that Ageia recently (February 2008) acquired by Nvidia.

Perhaps, in terms of RAM, the wisest path to take is to buy a laptop or PC where you can easily upgrade or expand the RAM if you need more memory. The changes are, wait a few months and may need to increase your RAM.
