Can I replace a power supply in a Dell Dimension 5150?
I blew the power supply in my Dell computer and would like to replace by a higher power one, the old one is 300W, but I would like a 500W. I called and told me that if I went any further I would fry the motherboard, but sounds doubtful to me. Any suggestions?
I gave up trying to fix my 5150. There may have been the power supply. Turning to leave Mina in a day. I replaced the power supply and switch to no avail. If 5150 was only one of 300 watts and had a Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading or another power hungry processor, probably under power. I agree with you that the 500W power supply will not burn your motherboard, but you may need to many power-hungry devices (many of USB ports, drives, and processors) can.
