Why USB although many serial ports as R, parallel to the margin of speed, portability?

What were the main reasons for the change of the series, Games, and PS / 2 ports for USB 1.1?

The speed, and standardization. USB is much faster and less cumbersome than the parallel cable and PS / 2. Furthermore, it is much less complicated to use 1 cable for all standard interface devices
