RAM stands for Random Access Memory, if you look at the name you can quickly understand is a type of memory, but the same time, you may ask, why random?
The explanation is simple, this means that each byte of memory that can be accessed without going through the previous bytes, without slowing, and computer use Notepad as a "" which has programs and data for quick access.
This type of memory is volatile, which means that only the data when the computer is on, and is constantly changing as the operating system is running.
The rapid advancement of technology that is experiencing, especially in the area of the CPU, there are more and more requirements in terms of amount of RAM to enjoy a good performance in the latest machines and operating systems.
But this does not mean that we should aspire to more RAM than we need for our purposes.
We must first consider which operating system we use. If we aspire to a 32-bit version of Windows XP or Vista, no matter if we have 4 or 8 GB of RAM, the system uses 3.5GB of RAM at max, and the rest is wasted, but if our operating system is a 64-bit version, things are different since the maximum amount of RAM you can use in operating systems is way more than the RAM can be installed on your computer today *.
