I have to run the network wizard to connect to my wireless connection WEP security.?
My wireless network consists of a Toshiba laptop with a Linksys 802.11g PCMCIA card, D-Link wireless router, Dell Media Center PC with an Ethernet connection to the router. My problem is that every time I use the computer I have to run portable wireless network wizard and choose to add a computer to an existing network to obtain an IP address and actually connect to the Internet or network work home. Sometimes I can disconnect and reconnect the wireless network and I key dialog. Usually work after that, too. I want you just simply connect automatically when the laptop.
It could simply be that the wi-fi is not set to automatic. Try this: doulbe click the wireless network icon> Properties> Wireless Networks tab> Make sure your network SSID (name) is located within of Preferred Networks, checkbox states in 'Automatic', if not to emphasize their connection and click Properties> Connection tab and add a cross in the box. All this assumes you're using the wireless utility in Windows XP.

What is WiFi?
Wi-Fi is a new technology allows images to a computer to be transmitted to the projector without a hard wire connection. Hence the use of a VGA cable to connect the computer and the projector is no longer necessary.
Why Wi-Fi?
The goal of the Wi-Fi is to hide complexity by enabling wireless access to applications and data, and media streams. The main objectives of the Wi-Fi are:
- make easier access to information
- ensure compatibility and coexistence between devices
- eliminate cabling and wiring
- eliminate switches, adapters, sockets, plugs and connectors.
Wi-Fi How it works
It uses a new technology, that for the purpose of transmitting information over long distances. In short, WiFi can transmit data for up to ten times faster than Bluetooth, and up to six times more than Bluetooth.WiFi networks use radio technologies called IEEE 802.11b 802.11a to transmit data from the Internet connection with the mainframe (eg your laptop). These technologies offer a reliable and fast wireless connectivity and to some extent a level of security (to be discussed below). A Wi-Fi network can be used to connect computers to each other, the Internet and cable networks.
Wi-Fi networks operate in the unlicensed 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands, with 11 Mbps (802.11b) or 54 Mbps (802.11a) data rate or with products that contain both bands (dual band) for which can provide real performance similar to the basic 10BaseT Ethernet networks used in many offices
Elements of a Wi-Fi Network
• Access Point (AP) – The AP is a wireless LAN transceiver or "station base "that can connect one or more wireless devices to the Internet simultaneously.
• Wi-Fi cards – They accept the wireless signal and retransmission information.They may be internal and external. (eg PCMCIA card for laptop and PCI card for PC desktop)
• Safeguards - Firewalls and anti-virus software to protect networks from unwanted users and maintain secure information.

Uses
· Wi-Fi device such as a PC, game console, cell phone, MP3 player or PDA can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to Internet. The coverage of one or more interconnected access points – called an access point – can cover an area as small as a single room with wireless-opaque walls or as large as many square miles covered by overlapping access points. Wi-Fi technology has served to establish mesh networks,
• In addition to restricted use in homes and offices, Wi-Fi can make access to public Wi-Fi hotspots provided free of charge or to subscribers of different suppliers. Organizations and businesses such as airports, hotels and restaurants often provide free hotspots to attract or assist clients. Enthusiasts or authorities who wish to provide services or even to promote business in a given area sometimes provide free Wi-Fi. Metropolitan-wide Wi-Fi (Muni-Fi) already has over 300 projects in process. [2] There were 879 Wireless Wi-Fi-based Internet service providers in the Czech Republic in May 2008.
· Wi-Fi too allows connectivity in peer-to-peer (wireless ad hoc network) mode, which allows devices to connect directly with each other. This connection mode can be useful in consumer electronics and gaming applications.
· Many consumer devices use Wi-Fi. Among others, the personal computer can be networked together and connect to the Internet, laptops can connect to Internet from any Wi-Fi hotspot and digital cameras can transfer images wirelessly.
· Can also connect Wi-Fi devices in ad-hoc mode for client-to-client connections without a router.
- In the wake of recent mining tragedies, some technology companies have suggested that the extent of real-time wireless location using the WiFi networking technology to locate trapped miners underground – a solution that could save lives in the future.
Wi-Fi technology has spread widely within business and industrial parks. In business environments, as well as other environments, increasing the number of Wi-Fi points provides redundancy, support fast roaming and increased overall network capacity by using more channels or by defining cells smaller. Wi-Fi enables wireless voice applications (VoWLAN or WVOIP). Over the years, the Wi-Fi implementations have moved toward "thin" access points, with most of the network intelligence housed in a centralized network appliance, relegating individual access points to the role of simple radios "dumb." Outdoor applications can use true mesh topologies. From 2007 Wi-Fi installations can provide a secure gateway computer networks, firewalls, DHCP server, intrusion detection system, and other functions.
Growth of Wi-Fi in some previous years clearly shows Wi-Fi wireless technologies.We cannibalizing everyone else can say "The future belongs to the Wi-Fi".
