PCI and AGP slots on a desktop computer?

I'm a programmer. I work with large amounts of programs, and I need to have a multitude of applications running simultaneously: a compiler, debugger, code editor, command shells, documentation, and other various tools of the trade, which makes for a lot of windows open. The pace of my workflow degrade considerably if there was only one screen to work. I admit, I dispossession by using the power of a dual desktop configuration. I find it frustrating to deal with a single desktop. I am an avid multi-tasker. I juggle a lot of windows at the same time, and doing so with a single display becomes a task cumbersome and frustrating.

Windows XP provides native support for multiple monitors. Imagine having 2 screens next to each other. Now imagine your Windows desktop is expand to fill your sample, the formation of a fluid, continuous desktop. With 2 screens side by side, you can have a full screen application the maximum on screen 1, and another application to the maximum in the number 2. Displaying 2 of Windows as possible, while it is impossible within the confines of a single desktop. You basically have 2 desktops at your disposal, each of them in sight. To move from one desktop to another motion, simple cursor to it, is almost magical, the first time I witness it!

I can not live without at least an LCD screen, and its small foot print leaves much extra space in my computer desk, and I feel that I'm carrying a baby elephant when moving it. I also have several spare CRT monitors of yesteryear around to rest, the attraction of dust and generally do nothing of value. Most graphics cards today come with 2 monitor ports: a D-Sub and a DVI port. The D-Sub port supports CRT monitors school age and DVI for LCD screens of today's fashion. With an LCD screen and an old school CRT monitor, you can build a dual screen system, which greatly extends the state real double desk, making room for the legs of their large windows.

The process is simple: connect the LCD to the DVI port and CRT D-Sub port and boot XP. Window XP should recognize the additional monitor. Right click on the desktop and select Properties. Go to the Settings tab. You should see your labeled sample 1 and 2. You can move everyone around, change their resolution and color quality. From setting up your CRT monitor, you can change its frequency update. If you happen to have an extra LCD on tap, you can even buy an adapter, so you can connect your LCD screen for extra VGA D-Sub port. Two LCD are better than LCD / CRT setup, in my humble opinion.

When you buy a graphics card for displaying multiple installation make sure your option card has a DVI and a VGA port, and most mid-range until nVidia and ATI cards do. If you have 2 LCD screens, be sure that has an adapter so that one of their screens can interact with the VGA port. If your current card is not capable of dual head and has an empty PCI slot, you can buy a very cheap nVidia card for additional display.
I fully trust my multi-desktop setup my extreme multitasking needs. A configuration dual desktop provides the extra space I need, and can be a frugal alternative to buying a widescreen.
