Best USB or Firewire drive to use the electric guitar into GarageBand?
I tried the Line 6 TonePort GX. He died after a year. I tried an M-Audio connector JamLab. He died after a year. Can someone please recommend a USB or Firewire piece of hardware that allows me to play and recording my guitar through my MacBook Pro with GarageBand?
Presonus makes an amazing product. I have the fire-Pod and have been using for more than 2 years without any problem. They have a smaller version of the Fire-Pod called the fire box. You should definitely check it out. http://www.presonus.com/

FireWire is Apple's brand name for IEEE 1394 high-speed cable. The Firewire cable was created with the intention of the rapid transfer of video from digital video cameras and external hard drives. FireWire has replaced traditional USB when it was created as a preferred method for transferring data, offering significantly higher data transfer rates of USB. Within a short period of time, Firewire has become a standard on many computers and cameras digital.
FireWire cables known as IEEE 1394 cables and wires as liaison. These names refer to the same cable under different brands. IEEE 1394 is the actual name of the cable, Firewire is the name given by Apple and i-Link is given by Sony.
There are two types of FireWire cables on the market – FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. The 400 cable is capable of transferring data at speeds of 400 Mbps, 800 cable can transfer data at speeds of 800 Mbps, which is much faster. Therefore, FireWire 800, FireWire cables have replaced the 400 in the market.
FireWire cables are used to transfer large amounts of data at very high speed. These cables are traditionally used with digital video cameras to transfer video to computers and also used to transfer data to and from external hard drives.
Today, Firewire slowly out of date the market and is quickly being replaced for USB 2.0 cables. Apple has not included as a standard Firewire port on your laptop or computer so many digital camcorders are beginning to use USB 2.0 for transfer data.
