Microphone does not work on Dell Dimension XPS?

It's in the right port, the sound card works and I've followed all the troubleshooting steps in the control panel sound / audio section. However, it still does not work (and not the microphone, I've tried others and the same story every time). Never I tried a PC microphone with Windows 2000 prior to this. Any bright ideas people? It's in the pink microphone port (I know this is correct, because I used other dimensions)

Difficult to answer without actually …. and the computer to say that the correct port is not very helpful. I imagine it might be a problem port connections with themselves. I imagine that if Windows 200 is not a new computer, however, self-service you could try Dell support, they really are one of the best teams around customer service.
