Shopping experience

When I bought my machine, Dell was a sale which involved a $ 350 instant rebate at all latitudes, sweeteners, offer a little more. I set the machine in the Dell website Small Busines. Almost all components of the machine was highly configurable, something that IBM / Lenovo and HP could learn from, and the online shopping experience was overall very pleasant. After pulling the trigger, I realized that I did not select Bluetooth card. I called Dell Small Business and requested them to add the card. It was too late to modify the original order, but the association was very useful. Although the sale price was no longer in force for the new order, let me add that the discount retroactively. The waiting times to speak with an agent were insignificant (definitely not the case with my past experiences with Dell Home) and her agent was friendly and helpful. The total price for my Dell Latitude D820 (after adding the Bluetooth card) came to $ 1496.25, which I think is a good idea, especially since the latitude line rarely leaves the sale.

First Impressions

When Firstly, the D820 unpacked from its packaging styrofoam, I was impressed by the strength of its construction. He felt strong and the housing of the laptop does not flex when handled. The point is qualified as magnesium alloy body and most of the notebook looks like it is. The computer was as thin as I expected, but was a little heavier than I thought it would be. Heft is not uncomfortable, but that implies some build quality. At first glance, the notebook is not impressive, but it is pleasing to the eye with a discreet finish charcoal gray. At first glance, one decorated with good taste (though by no means beautiful) and well built notebook. Also included in the package is user manual, software and OS CDs, and the power adapter AC.
Build & Design

The D820 has a magnesium alloy body that is supposed to protect the notebook from bending and wear and tear of corporate travel and use. All the bottom and lid of the laptop feel like metal, but unfortunately, the wrist rests are plastic. By So there is a certain amount of flex when handling this matter, but in no way disturb the amount of flex. The rest of the notebook, however, is very rigid.
Screen
The screen is probably the Achilles heel of the D820, if any. The screen is 15.4 inches diagonally and is matte, not shiny. The trend in most consumer notebooks is towards the glossy screens which feature vivid colors and higher brightness for the benefit of the games, watching movies, and viewing of photographs. Most business machines, however, still come with the old style matte screens which are more suitable for the office rather than multimedia tasks. Unfortunately, the D820 matte screen is not very bright and higher brightness settings drain the battery quickly. A feature interesting is the automatic light sensor that adjusts screen brightness based on ambient light conditions. This is useful when running on battery or when using the pad of letters in different settings but I ended up turning this feature off, and that often results in an unacceptably weak screen.
My D820 comes with the WSXGA + (1680×1050) screen. The other options were the basis of WXGA + (1280×800) and screen ultra-high resolution WUXGA (1900×1200). I'm used to WSXGA + resolution on my Dell monitor and I chose him because I thought it was a good balance between screen real estate and readability of the fonts and icons. Could have gone with the highest resolution and increasing the DPI and font size of Windows (in fact, the WSXGA + and WUXGA models ship with 120 DPI setting of the box) but the browsers and other applications do not always stick to the Windows settings. I changed the configuration 120dpi to 96dpi because it made Windows fonts is too large and the leg of graphics on webpages. I think I made the right decision here because the WUXGA screen would have the fonts and icons too small even for small eyes.
