Compaq Gateway

Does anyone have any opinion on laptops latops Gateway or HP Compaq?

Or, besides these two, that you hear are the best to buy. Also, any name brand you recommend for a printer around 100 pounds?

I had an HP Pavilion laptop more a year and I found it very reliable. When I was shopping around, compared with Toshiba's god awful teal color cover which I found not only economic, but also seemed in bad taste, I prefer solid construction of the pavilion and attractive case design and keyboard too. I have purchased several products HP in the last couple of years (iPAQ PDA, Color LaserJet printer and laptop) and a plan to buy an HP desktop and all-in-one printer when it's time to update again. I found all HP products to be very well made and reliable. Good luck!

The HP Compaq dc5750 Microtower comes in one configuration or the desktop orientation that we tested. HP calls the latter model a "small form factor" the system, but is almost identical in size to the Dell desktop case. It is moderately attractive, with horizontal black fins and some shiny black pieces.

The dc5750 uses small, traditional fans inside – one in the power supply, located on the back of the case, and one mounted on top of sink heat from the CPU. The HP uses an air intake to channel air flow over the heat sink. The system is fairly quiet, although not as quiet as the Dell OptiPlex 740 we tested at the same time. HP fans outside of the platform is likely to cost less than Dell's, however, if you need to replace out of warranty. The Athlon 64 X2 uses this team can take advantage of AMD Cool 'technology n' Quiet, which allows the PC to adjust the speed and voltage to meet the needs of the user. AMD says that Vista systems can take advantage of driverless technology, whereas XP systems require one.

The DC5750 has a quick release mechanisms for your optical drive, power supply, and expansion cards, but not as well designed as the OptiPlex 740. For example, the retainer slot Expansion is a piece of metal that attaches to the top of the case, remove the top and the retainer can rattle around.

Our system test had integrated graphics, which we worried would slow Vista's Aero interface, especially since the system came with only 1 GB of RAM on your system that the graphics system could steal. But we Aero with no problems. Even with integrated graphics, the HP lets you connect two monitors simultaneously – one DVI and one VGA. HP charges $ 95 for a 128MB card ATI 1300. The HP L2045w LCD monitor that came with our system allows height adjustment, swivel and tilt.

In our WorldBench 6 Beta 2 tests, the dc5750 scored a 62, a 11 percent behind the OptiPlex 740. They are two of the first Vista value systems we've tested, and compared with the power Vista systems we've tested previously, both systems are very slow: the fastest system we've tested then scored a 129 on our benchmark. If you want more power, you can opt for AMD processors with clock speeds little faster, or choose a slightly different system and configure it with an Intel Core 2 Duo.

The DC5750 did not have a chassis intrusion detection mechanism installed, but HP offers a no-cost option. You can buy a port guard to prevent connections Unauthorized USB, and can disable the front USB ports on the BIOS password protected. HP offers a security sleeve for mounting under a desk system or on a wall, but only for use with the desktop version.

You can use the Trusted Platform Module chip built-in security with motherboards the included software to encrypt passwords and document folders. The Bit Locker chip works with Vista security feature, which allows you to encrypt entire hard disk.

HP offers 24 / 7 support high technology and next-business-day on-site warranty service, and you can tack on the same day on-site warranty service to a three years for $ 149 additional. Readers in our most recent reliability and service survey scored HP fourth from the bottom, with average marks in all categories, but "satisfaction with reliability," which received a score below average.

With its many security options The dc5750 is a good option if you want a PC that does not grow legs. But the OptiPlex 740 line, while perhaps not as generous with the safety of supplements, has better design of cases and producing less noise. Learn more about other Notebook PC …
