What is the main difference between Intel and AMD?
Is there a difference between an AMD dual core 2.1GHz and an Intel Core 1 Duo 2.1GHz? And whatever else is useful.
The biggest difference is that AMD has a larger L1 cache capacity. But Intel has a higher capacity of L2 cache. Cache L1 is faster and more expensive than the L2. But the cache is measured in KB L1 and L2 is measured in MB's. This means L2 is 4-5 times greater than L1, but slower. Any CPU has L1, L2 and has the latest CPU integrated L3 cache. So all this means that AMD is designed to run faster than smaller programs Intel, but Intel is designed to operate at a normal speed, but large programs. AMD is good for entertainment, Intel is good for design.

AMD
Since Intel launched its Core 2 Duo in 2006, AMD has struggled to keep pace. To compete effectively and maintain its market share and small, AMD has had to cut prices in its processor lines. AMD has failed to demonstrate a benefit of almost two years, which has made it harder for the company to move to 45 nm (one of the few ways to match Intel's performance) and upgrade its manufacturing techniques. In early 2008, AMD launched its Phenom processors. Many wondered whether AMD would be able to recover the performance advantage it held for most of 2005 after Intel failed to meet expectations with improvements ultimately unsuccessfully for the Pentium 4, AMD does not. Today, AMD is competing for customers trying to gain a solid value proposition. Additionally, the company has also sought to give customers a more robust upgrade path allowing customers to upgrade for faster processors, unchanged significant hardware. Soon, AMD will move to a 45nm architecture, which, if expectations are correct, should make available the best Intel processors, but Intel is ready with a new chip design itself.

Intel Intel always has dominated the desktop processor market in terms of market share from personal computers became general. Because of its size, Intel has been subjective to a variety of claims alleging that Intel should be regulated to promote fair competition. During years, Intel has always produced the fastest processors. One is probably familiar with the reputation of the company "Pentium" brand. In 2005, the company faces its first real challenge when AMD took the performance crown from them. Intel fought back hard with its processor offerings later and has remained unsurpassed to this day. Intel is producing a healthy line and wide range of 45nm processors, these processors also have the potential of overclocking higher due to its efficient design. Around the time AMD is scheduled to launch its 45nm Phenom, Intel expects to launch Nahalem, which should improve the current performance of a 25-30% more than the existing architecture. Depending on the timing of this launch, Intel could retain its performance crown until the end of 2009 when AMD finally launches its next processor line.
